Why Murphy Auctions?

What is preview?

Preview is the day(s) you can come see items in person. You can open things up, look inside and/or inspect items you are interested in. Additionally, our staff can assist with starting a vehicle or equipment for you. Please note, you will not be able to test drive anything.

Do you ship to customers?

No, we do not get involved in any shipping but we would be happy to send you a list of shippers & riggers if needed.

Do you charge sales tax?

Yes, sales tax applies based on the auction location.

When are invoices sent out?

Invoices will be sent via email, once the entire (every lot) auction has closed.

What if I am tax exempt, can you remove the tax?

Sales tax exemptions follow state laws and proper documentation will be required.

Do you charge credit card fees?

Not typically, be sure to check auction-specific terms & conditions.

What is buyer’s premium?

A buyer's premium is a fee that a winning bidder pays in addition to the winning bid price, at an auction. Buyer’s premium percentages vary, and are listed in the auction-specific terms & conditions. Buyer’s premium is considered part of the purchase price and is therefore taxable.

A staggered-close means that an auction lot will close every 20-45 seconds (i.e. not all auction lots will close at one time). The stagger time varies per auction, please see the Bidding Notice for auction-specific staggered-closing times

What is a soft close?

If there are any bids within the last 2 minutes of a lot that is set to close, the bidding will be extended for 2 additional minutes.

What are linked lots?

Linked lots are multiple lots that are linked together so that if one lot has its bidding extended, all of the other lots that are linked to it will also have their bidding extended.

What does mileage not actual mean?

On vehicles 2010 and older, it means it’s exempt from federal odometer disclosure laws so no one has to legally guarantee them to be accurate due the age and/or class of the vehicle. Not actual could also mean odometer is broken or has been replaced.

Can you share where equipment/items came from? Can you share who the consignor is?

No, for the privacy of our customers, we do NOT share consignor information. The only information we can disclose is whether the item(s) came from an individual, company, city, municipality, etc.

Do you disclose what equipment/items sold for?

Yes, we publish the price realized (price it sold for) for every lot sold at our auctions. You can go to the past auctions tab, find the auction you’re interested in, click catalog & bidding, you will then see the price realized under each lot. The price realized does NOT include buyer’s premium, taxes or fees.
"I wanted to put into writing how much your effort, along with all those at James G. Murphy, meant to me in the sale of my equipment at your auction.  After over 44 years in business, the decision to move in another direction was not easy, however your honest evaluation and up front open communication made the difficult process a bit easier to handle. I appreciate the time you all took in making me feel comfortable with whatever decision I came to, assuring me that James G. Murphy would do all that it could to make the sale of my equipment a success. Thanks again to you and all those involved at James G. Murphy for making me feel that you were treating my equipment as if it were your own."
